ABOUT VENTURER SCOUTS

Look Wide!

Venturers are young adults between 15 – 17 years of age.

If your young adult is about to turn 18 or is already 18 years of age, we would encourage you to check out our opportunities for adults which includes Rovers or Adult Leadership. Venturers progress to Rovers or into Adult Leadership around the time of their 18th birthday.

Our Venturers meet at our Hall on Friday evenings, between 7:30pm to 9:30pm. Our Venturers wear their uniform at these meetings, which includes their Venturer uniform shirt, 4th Kingsgrove scarf along with beige or stone coloured pants or shorts, and comfortable shoes and socks.

This is the fourth age unit or section of the Scouting Journey.

Venturers in our Venturer Unit, focuses on encouraging young people to forge their own paths, with a mix of fun, adventure and personal challenges.

Venturers do what Scouts do, but in a way that lets them be more independent and more responsible within controlled, supervised environments. Basically, Venturers is the same as Scouts but just a bit more challenging and exciting.

Some of the things our Venturers did last year included: indoor rock climbing, several hikes, canoeing, sailing and lots of camping and overnight hikes! Our Venturers undertake community service such as marching alongside veterans with Kingsgrove RSL on ANZAC Day and volunteering at events like the Christmas Night Markets at Bunnings, and assisting with our younger age sections in Joeys and Cubs.

Many of our Venturers are also working through their Duke of Edinburgh Awards, weaving in their Scouting activities. You can read more about how the Duke of Edinburgh program works symbiotically with Scouting on the Scouts NSW website.

There are also special interest area badges Venturers can earn, as well as their milestone badges, outdoor adventure skills and they can also choose to work towards their Venturer Peak Award: The King’s Scout Award.
