Scouts are young people who are aged between 11-15 years, who love challenging themselves and developing more complex skills in a modern, fun and active environment.

Explore the unknown!

Scouts are young people between 11 – 14 years of age, attending school.

If your child is about to turn 15 or is already 15 years of age, we would encourage you to check out our Venturer unit. Our Scouts progress to Venturers around the time of their 15th birthday.

Our Scouts meet at our Hall on Friday evenings, between 7:30pm to 9:30pm. Our Scouts wear their uniform at these meetings, which includes their Scout uniform shirt, 4th Kingsgrove scarf along with beige or stone coloured pants or shorts, and comfortable shoes and socks.

This is the third age unit or section of the Scouting Journey.

Scouts in our Scout Unit, focus on bushcraft and adventure, and they focus on developing more complex outdoor skills in a modern, fun and active environment.

There are competitive overnight hikes such as Scout Hike where you compete with Scout troops from all over NSW to complete competitive bases. These bases are activities such as escape rooms, construction challenges and puzzles while hiking with your backpack between the bases as quickly as you can. Jamboree is held every three years and involves more than 10,000 scouts from all around the world with numerous different activities such as obstacle courses, navigation tests and troop challenge races between various bases. There are also World Jamborees where you have the opportunity to travel overseas to engage in huge World Scouting camps. In between these camps, you’ll hike, camp in the bush, canoe, sail, fly in small aircraft, abseil, rock climb, and work with your Unit and your patrol to achieve all sorts of things. Most importantly you’ll learn to work with your friends in a team and even be an activity leader if you want.

Some of the things our Scouts did last year included: indoor rock climbing, several hikes, camped, attended the South Met Region Camp in June and our Group Camp in November, as well as Scout Hike, State Rally, overnight hikes and many other adventures! Our Scouts undertake community service such as marching alongside veterans with Kingsgrove RSL on ANZAC Day and volunteering at events like the Christmas Night Markets at Bunnings and Carols by Candlelight.

There are also special interest area badges Scouts can earn, focusing on things they like to do outside Scouting, such as soccer, Minecraft coding, dancing, playing musical instruments and so much more. They also work towards their milestone badges, outdoor adventure skills and they can also choose to work towards their Scout Peak Award: The Australian Scout Medal.
