Uniform Shirt Review

Scouts Australia are currently seeking input and feedback into the uniform shirts worn by youth members, from leaders, youth members and parents.

The current uniforms with coloured yokes for youth and navy blue for adults have been in existence since 2003, prior to that, it was our old mate the khaki uniform many of us grew up with. Long-sleeved shirts were added in 2020.

The number of different uniform options available in the Scout Shop currently sits at 114 when all colours, styles and sizes are considered. This wide range (largely due to section colours) means that a large number of stock items are produced – increasing costs for Members due to poor economies of scale.

And this also reduces the ability to introduce additional items, such as female-fitted Scout and Venturer Scout shirts (only available to Rover Scouts and Adult Leaders currently).

Scouts Australia are seeking your input into the varieties that are currently available, and feedback on what Members value with regard to the styles, design and cost.

The survey can be accessed at the following link: https://forms.office.com/r/WmSHX4tH0a

They are also running a colouring in competition with some guided questions for younger youth members. Prizes will be available to the winners picked from Joey Scout, Cub Scout and Scout entrants. Please visit this link to download the activity sheets and enter the competition.

There is currently a Uniform Working Group conducting the consultation phase, this is comprised of youth members from the Venturer and Rover Scout section, plus a recently booted Rover Scout who is an Adult Leader (the Rover Scouts are all Adult Leaders for other youth sections too). This working group was appointed by the National Operations Committee (NOC) of Scouts Australia.

The working group is tasked with consulting membership to gain a broad range of perspectives across all roles within Scouts Australia, alongside available data around sales and costs from the Scout Shop.

The working group is charged with making recommendations based on the consultations and available data, for consideration by the NOC, who will be making any decisions on the topic.
